All Alamance Parks Programming Is Suspended Through April 6
Beginning Monday, March 16th Alamance Parks will be suspending all recreation programming. This includes open gym and fitness center hours. This action is being taken following social distancing guidelines for the safety of the public.
All park locations including Cedarock Park, Haw River Trail, and the Pleasant Grove and Eli Whitney Community Centers will remain open during their normal operating hours. Park opening status may change as the situation evolves.
Alamance Libraries – All programming, mobile cafe, and meeting room services are suspended
As of Monday, March 16th the Alamance County Public Libraries will be suspending all library programs and public meeting rooms use. For the safety of the public, under social distancing guidelines we are limiting the services that draw groups of people together in our spaces. For these same reasons, the Mobile Café will also be suspending their routes.
All library locations will be open their normal operating hours, but keep in mind that this may change as the situation changes. That being said, now may be the time to stock up on library materials and always remember that our electronic and online resources are available.
Defendants Serving Intermittent Sentences Are Not To Report To The Alamance County Jail Until May 1st

Effective immediately, any Defendant who has been Court-ordered to serve an intermittent sentence involving weekends or weekdays, will not report to the Alamance County Jail to serve such sentences through April 30, 2020. All intermittent sentences will recommence beginning Friday May 1, 2020.

Alamance County Land Development Plan Meetings
Help develop a plan to address and guide anticipated growth in a way that will preserve community and rural character, foster economic development, and recognize the County’s natural and cultural assets. Attend any of the upcoming meetings beginning next week to provide input for the Alamance County Land Development Plan.

Potential Meeting Changes

The meeting venues will provide hand sanitizer, antibacterial soap, and paper towels. We will not shake hands to greet you. Please do not attend a meeting if you are sick.
Alamance Parks Awarded North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund Grant
GRAHAM, N.C.– The North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund has awarded Alamance County a $470,000 grant for the development of the Cane Creek Mountains Natural Area. The grant will fund the construction of an observation tower, trailhead, natural surface hiking trails, and camping facilities at the park.
The Cane Creek Mountains are located 8 miles south of the City of Graham and comprise the largest State Natural Heritage Area and largest area of undisturbed woodland in Alamance County. The mountain range is also home to the highest peak in North Carolina east of Greensboro at 987 feet. The property contains four miles of streams and supports Piedmont Monadnock Forest, Dry-Mesic Oak-Hickory Forests, as well as low elevation seeps. The area contains plants and animals found nowhere else in Alamance County.
Upon completion, the Cane Creek Mountains Natural Area will total over 1,000 acres. The observation tower will offer unparalleled views of this exceptional mountain range. No other parks in our area approach the size and scope of the Cane Creek Mountains Natural Area.
The Cane Creek Mountain Natural Area is a partnership between The Conservation Fund, Piedmont Land Conservancy, and Alamance Parks. Additional funding support has been received from Clean Water Management Trust Fund, North Carolina Recreational Trails Program and private donors.
The first hiking trails of the park are expected to open in 2020.
County Government Academy Spring Kick-Off 2020

Alamance County will kick-off the 2020 Spring County Government Academy on Tuesday, March 10th , 2020. The County Government Academy gives participants a behind the scenes look at the county’s responsibilities and the vital role that county government plays in the community. Join us in learning how your tax dollars are spent!
The academy will run for 10 consecutive Tuesdays from 6:00-8:30pm (the County Landfill & Airport tour sessions will start at 3:00pm-5:00pm) at various county departments starting on March 10 th and concluding on May 12th . March 10th – Orientation, Clerk to the Board, County Manager, & Group Exercise March 17th – Sheriff’s Office, CSI/CSI Exercise March 24th –GIS, Environmental Health, Public Health, Department of Social Services March 31th –Burlington-Alamance Airport Tour (3:00-5:00pm)
- April 7th – Textile Heritage Museum, Inspections, Recreation & Parks, Library, Information Technology
- April 14th –Register of Deeds, Veteran Services, Planning, Tax Administration
- April 21rd – Emergency Management, Central Communications (Part 1)
- April 28th – Fire Marshal, Emergency Medical Services (Part 2)
- May 5th –Cooperative Extension, Soil & Water Conservation, Food Sciences Cooking Demo
- May 12th – Solid Waste Management (3:00-5:00pm)*
- June 15th – Meet & Greet w/ County Commissioners followed by Graduation/Recognition
Class size is limited and academy slots are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Participants are asked to commit to attending every session.
