As of Monday, March 16th the Alamance County Public Libraries will be suspending all library programs and public meeting rooms use. For the safety of the public, under social distancing guidelines we are limiting the services that draw groups of people together in our spaces. For these same reasons, the Mobile Café will also be suspending their routes.
All library locations will be open their normal operating hours, but keep in mind that this may change as the situation changes. That being said, now may be the time to stock up on library materials and always remember that our electronic and online resources are available.

Effective immediately, any Defendant who has been Court-ordered to serve an intermittent sentence involving weekends or weekdays, will not report to the Alamance County Jail to serve such sentences through April 30, 2020. All intermittent sentences will recommence beginning Friday May 1, 2020.

GRAHAM, N.C.– The North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund has awarded Alamance County a $470,000 grant for the development of the Cane Creek Mountains Natural Area. The grant will fund the construction of an observation tower, trailhead, natural surface hiking trails, and camping facilities at the park.
The Cane Creek Mountains are located 8 miles south of the City of Graham and comprise the largest State Natural Heritage Area and largest area of undisturbed woodland in Alamance County. The mountain range is also home to the highest peak in North Carolina east of Greensboro at 987 feet. The property contains four miles of streams and supports Piedmont Monadnock Forest, Dry-Mesic Oak-Hickory Forests, as well as low elevation seeps. The area contains plants and animals found nowhere else in Alamance County.
Upon completion, the Cane Creek Mountains Natural Area will total over 1,000 acres. The observation tower will offer unparalleled views of this exceptional mountain range. No other parks in our area approach the size and scope of the Cane Creek Mountains Natural Area.
The Cane Creek Mountain Natural Area is a partnership between The Conservation Fund, Piedmont Land Conservancy, and Alamance Parks. Additional funding support has been received from Clean Water Management Trust Fund, North Carolina Recreational Trails Program and private donors.
The first hiking trails of the park are expected to open in 2020.
Alamance County will kick-off the 2020 Spring County Government Academy on Tuesday, March 10th , 2020. The County Government Academy gives participants a behind the scenes look at the county’s responsibilities and the vital role that county government plays in the community. Join us in learning how your tax dollars are spent!
The academy will run for 10 consecutive Tuesdays from 6:00-8:30pm (the County Landfill & Airport tour sessions will start at 3:00pm-5:00pm) at various county departments starting on March 10 th and concluding on May 12th . Champion Tree of Alamance County began in 2012 and celebrates the many wonderful, significant trees in our county. The program seeks to find, measure and crown trees in the following categories: Champion Tree, Historic Tree, and Landmark Tree. The Champion Tree category recognizes the largest tree in the county of any eligible species. Tree size is measured using a formula that takes into account circumference, height, and crown spread. Trees that meet the criteria for the North Carolina Champion Big Tree Program will be submitted for state level recognition.
The Historic Trees category recognizes trees that are at least 50 years old and have a verifiable story of historical significance. Landmark Trees include trees that hold special value for a community or group.
