Commissioners Attend Groundbreaking Ceremony at ACC

Alamance County Board of Commissioners attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Alamance Community College’s Advanced Applied Technology Center on the main campus located on Jimmie Kerr Rd, Graham, NC. In November 2012, a majority of votes were cast in favor of the $15,000,000 bond referendum. The County Commissioners voted unanimously to move forward with the financing of those bonds in September 2014. Today, the Alamance County Board of Commissioners participated in the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Advanced Applied Technology Center that will house programs such as: automotive technology; heating & air conditioning; computer-integrated machining; welding technology; and mechatronics. Chairman Eddie Boswell and Commissioner David I. Smith who was chairman in 2014 gave remarks. Vice Chair Bob Byrd, Commissioners Linda Massey and Roger Parker were in attendance.

Planning Ordinance for Alamance County

Alamance County, North Carolina

Please take notice that the Alamance County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Monday May 2, 2016 at 9:00 PM to consider changes to Planning Ordinance for Alamance County. The revised Ordinance proposes changes in order to clarify requirements for serving on the Board, including residency, eligibility for voting, and the roles and responsibilities of the Planning Department and Planning Board.

If you have any questions or concerns about this hearing please contact the Alamance County Planning Department at (336) 570-4053. The revised Ordinance is available for review at 215 N. Graham Hopedale, Burlington or on our web site at: www.alamance-nc.com.

The public hearing will be held in the Commissioner’s Meeting Room located on the 2nd floor of the Alamance County Office Building, 124 W. Elm Street, Graham, NC 27253. All interested citizens are invited to attend. April is National County Government and Alamance County Government will commemorate this month by offering citizens and residents introductory classes on County Government 101. The 4 mini-sessions (April 5th; April 7th; April 11th; & April 14th) will give the attendees a preview of the county’s Citizen’s Academy that is scheduled to launch in the fall of 2016. The abbreviated sessions will provide participants the opportunity to learn more about:

  • The vital role and responsibilities of county government
  • Organizational Chart, Elected Officials, Appointed Officials, & the County Manager Form of Government
  • Inter-local Cooperation between the municipalities and other agencies
  • County Operations & Departments
  • Property tax; distribution of local sales tax, statutory fees, & revenue sources
  • Annual Budget Ordinance; role of budget officer; & budget process;
  • Economic Development

The 4 mini-sessions will be offered during the afternoon and evenings. Sessions will last an hour. All citizens and residents that want to learn more about county government are encouraged to attend.
