Verizon Issues Reaching Alamance County 911

Please be advised that Verizon and other cell phone carriers that are associated with Verizon and Verizon’s network are having issues getting through to 911 due to extreme static on the line. At this time, the issue is not affecting AT&T. If you are unable to get through to 911 on Verizon service or a phone associated with Verizon please call the Alamance County non-emergency line at 1-336-570-6777. The issues with Verizon are occurring nationally and not just locally.

Alamance County will continue to provide updates as new information regarding operability is received.

Alamance County State of Emergency and Office Closing

At 11:30AM, Alamance County initiatied a Declaration of a State of Emergency for the county. At this time, the declaration is for Alamance County and includes some municipalities including City of Elon. Additionally, all nonemergency county offices will close at 12pm today.

The Alamance County Emergency Operations Center is open and monitoring the situation and deploying assistance as needed.

New Landfill Credit Card Convenience Fee Effective August 1, 2024

Effective August 1, 2024, credit card payments made at the Alamance County Landfill will be charged a service (convenience) fee. This fee does NOT apply to debit card, cash, or check purchases.

A convenience fee of 2.95% will be added to the total, with a minimum fee of $2.20 for credit card payments.

Recreation & Parks Commission Vacancy

The Alamance County Board of Commissioners is seeking a citizen to fill a Recreation and Parks Commission vacancy.  The appointee will be appointed to an unexpired term of June 30, 2025.  

The Recreation and Parks Commission is the advisory body for the Department of Recreation and Parks. It advises the Department and serves the Department and the citizens of Alamance County.

MEETINGS: The Recreation and Parks Commission typically meets on the 3rd  Tuesday of each month.  Please refer to the full meeting schedule for details on the location.

MEMBERS: An eleven-member commission: nine citizen volunteers appointed by the Alamance County Board of Commissioners, including one County Commissioner and one Board of Education Member.

Alamance County Shows Documentary Exploring Veterans’ Challenges  

Alamance County, NC– The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) is partnering with Alamance County to show The Veteran’s Battlefield, the newest documentary from NCACC’s 100 Strong Productions. The screening will take place on July 25, 2024.

WHAT:  
The Veteran’s Battlefield is a documentary that explores veterans’ challenges in North Carolina and how counties and residents can best support our veteran population. North Carolina is home to around 700,000 veterans and has the eighth-largest veteran population in the nation. 

Veterans face a wide range of challenges that can seem insurmountable. The Veteran’s Battlefield highlights these challenges and how county Veteran Service Officers and community leaders are working to support them.

The documentary showing is free and open to the public.

Alamance County government is hosting this event in partnership with Alcovets. Alamance County Commissioners and other local stakeholders and organizations will be at the event to host community discussions surrounding veteran services and support.

To hear upon request, any and all taxpayers who own or control taxable property assessed for taxation in Alamance County, with respect to the valuation of such property, or the property of others, and to fulfill other duties and responsibilities required by law.

The meetings will begin promptly at 9:00 am in the County Commissioners Meeting Room 2nd floor of the County Office Building 124 W. Elm Street, Graham, NC 27253

Requests for hearing must be received no later than final adjournment which is scheduled for Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 5:00 pm.

In the event of earlier or later adjournment, notice to that effect will be published in this newspaper. Meeting dates will also appear on the Alamance County website.

The schedule for the hearing of appeals timely filed will be posted at the office of the Tax Administrator, serving as Clerk to the Board and will also be provided to individuals and organizations that have requested notice pursuant to N.C.G.S. 143-318.12.

  • Library Committee (1 Member who resides in Burlington; 2 Members who reside in Graham; and 2 Members who reside in Mebane)
  • Burlington Board of Adjustment ETJ Member (Member must reside in the extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ)
  • Burlington Planning & Zoning Commission ETJ Member (Member must reside in the extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ)
  • Tourism Development Authority (Applicants must work in the hospitality industry or tourism-related)

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: The Alamance County Board of Commissioners will hold Special Meetings on the following dates: Monday, June 10, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. and Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the County Commissioner’s Meeting Room located on the 2nd floor of the County Office Building, 124 West Elm Street, Graham, NC 27253. 

The purpose of this meeting is to review the manager’s recommended budget for the fiscal year 2024-2025.
