Haw River Trail Run Benefiting SOAC – Saturday, October 19, 2019 – 8am

Join us for a beautiful Trail Run along the banks of the Haw River to benefit Special Olympics of Alamance County. This out and back course will give you a tour of the Sellers Falls section of the Haw River and Mountains-to-Sea Trail. The run will start and end in Red Slide Park in the shadows of the historic Cone Denim Mill.

SOAC serves 400 adult and youth athletes with developmental disabilities and provides year-round athletic competition in 13 sports. Participants are provided the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy at all levels – all at no cost.

Veterans Pension Facts and Fiction Program

The Veterans Pension Facts and Fiction, hosted by the Alamance County Veterans Services, will take place on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, from 9am-11am at Impact Alamance (133 East Davis Street, Burlington).

This program will provide information about eligible benefits for veterans or surviving spouses of veterans in need of care.

County Government Academy Fall Kick-Off 2019

Alamance County Government will kick-off the 2019 Fall County Government Academy on Tuesday, September 10th, 2019.  The County Government Academy gives participants a behind the scenes look at the county’s responsibilities and the vital role that county government plays in the community.  Join us in learning how your tax dollars are spent!

The academy will run for 10 consecutive Tuesdays from 6:00-8:30pm (the County Landfill session will start at 3:00pm-5:00pm) at various county departments starting on September 10th and concluding on November 12th.

  • September 10th – Orientation, Clerk to the Board, County Manager, & Group Exercise
  • September 17th – Agricultural & Horticulture Services: Cooperative Extension, Food Sciences Cooking Demonstration & Soil & Water Conservation
  • September 24th – Public Safety: Sheriff’s Office
  • October 1st – Developmental & Technical Services: GIS, Inspections, IT and Recreation & Parks
  • October 8th – Human Services: Environmental Health, Public Health, and Social Services
  • October 15th – Register of Deeds, Planning, & Tax Administration
  • October 22nd – Emergency Services (Part 1): Fire Marshal & Central Communications
  • October 29th – Emergency Services (Part 2): Emergency Management & Emergency Medical Services
  • November 5th – Solid Waste Management (3:00-5:00pm)*
  • November 12th – Burlington-Alamance Airport Tour
  • November 18th – Meet & Greet w/ County Commissioners followed by Graduation/Recognition

Alamance County Board of Elections to Conduct Educational Seminar on Voter ID Requirement

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Alamance County Board of Elections will hold an educational seminar about voter photo identification requirements at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, at the Williams High School Auditorium, 1307 South Church Street, Burlington, NC 27215.

The seminar is free and open to the public.

Beginning in 2020, voters will be required to provide photo identification before they vote. This includes both in-person and by-mail voting, with some exceptions. In November 2018, North Carolina voters approved an amendment to the N.C. Constitution to require voters to present photo ID at the polls.

Session Law 2018-144 requires each county board of elections to hold at least two voter ID seminars before September 1, 2019. Attendees also will receive information about voting options, including absentee-by-mail, One-Stop early voting and Election Day voting. Information about provisional voting, the availability of free North Carolina voter ID cards and residency requirements for voting also will be provided.

SAFETY EVENT – Learn from Alamance County’s Finest

The month of June is National Safety Awareness Month. Our committee will be sponsoring a large safety event on June 8, 2019, from 10am to 2pm at Lamb’s Chapel in Burlington the airport location. During this event we will be having the Sheriff Department, Burlington Police, Burlington Fire Department, Alamance County Emergency Services, NC Cooperative Extension, NC Highway Patrol and Agrisafe Network presenting a variety of safety presentations.

New FootGolf Course Opening at Cedarock Park, Saturday May 25, 2019

BURLINGTON – Starting Saturday, May 25, there will be something new to do at Cedarock Park. Alamance Parks is introducing a new FootGolf course to the park. The Cedarock FootGolf course starts at the Park Office and offers 18 holes of play on an open course. The game utilizes a soccer ball that is kicked into a series of holes. Like golf, the object of the game is to complete the course using the fewest possible shots. Visitors can bring their own soccer ball to use or rent a ball from the park office.

The new FootGolf course complements the existing two Disc Golf courses as well as six miles of both hiking and equestrian trails, a historical farm, fishing ponds, playground and ample field space for open play.

Proposed Budget of Alamance County
Fiscal Year 2019-2020

The Alamance County Manager has submitted his proposed budget for fiscal year 2019-20 to the Board of County Commissioners. A public hearing on the proposed budget ordinance in accordance with N.C.G.S. 159-12 will be held on Monday, May 20, 2019 at 7:00 pm in the Cummings High School Auditorium, 2200 N. Mebane St, Burlington, NC.

The proposed budget ordinance is available online on the Alamance County website: www.alamance-nc.com where it shall remain available until the budget ordinance is adopted. Copies are available in the offices of the Finance Officer and the Clerk to the Board for public inspection.

All interested citizens, groups, senior citizens and organizations representing the interest of county citizens are encouraged to attend and submit comments.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING: COUNTY NOISE ORDINANCE

Notice is hereby given that the Alamance County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing at its regular meeting on Monday, March 18th at 7:00 PM or as soon thereafter as the Board can receive citizen feedback on the current Alamance County Noise Ordinance. The public hearing will be held in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room, 2nd Floor of the County Office Building, 124 West Elm Street, Graham, NC.

The public is invited to attend and comment on the county’s current Noise Ordinance. There will be a limit of 5 minutes per public hearing speaker, depending on attendance.
