Due to a recent retirement and personnel changes, Alamance County Veteran Services will temporarily be taking Veterans and Dependents of Veterans by appointment only. This is a temporary change while we allow our newest employee to train and get federally certified through Veterans Affairs. We anticipate full certification and a return to our open office hours by June 2016.

As the turning of the seasons brings colder weather to North Carolina and families close windows to keep warm, it is an excellent time to make plans for radon testing in your home.
Radon is the odorless, colorless gas that is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. The effects upon the families it touches can be just as devastating as lung cancer caused by smoking tobacco.
January is National Radon Action Month and Alamance County Environmental Health has partnered with the North Carolina Radon Program to provide free short-term radon test kits in recognition of National Radon Action Month. A limited supply of radon kits are being made available during the month of January at the Environmental Health office located at 209 N. Graham Hopedale Rd in Burlington. While supplies last, residents are welcome to come between the hours of 8am to 5pm to pick up a kit. Please call 336-570-6367 ext. 310 if you have questions.

Alamance County has launched its strategic plan website so that citizens can keep up to date with all aspects of the development and implementation of our new strategic plan. The site will contain documents that citizens can review and announcements about events that they can attend.
The following changes have been made to the Commissioners Meeting Schedule for December 2015 and January 2016:
The upcoming Monday, December 21, 2015 Alamance County Commissioners Meeting will be held at 9:00 AM instead of 7:00 PM at the County Office Building in Graham, NC.
There will only be one Alamance County Commissioners Meeting for January 2016, and it will be on Tuesday January 19th, 2016 at 7:00 P.M. located in the Alamance County Commissioners Room. This change from Monday to Tuesday is due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
