The Alamance County Board of Commissioners is seeking citizens to fill five vacancies on the newly approved Alamance County Justice Advisory Council. Each appointee will be appointed to a 3-year term and no more than three consecutive terms may be served. The five (5) appointed positions are as follows:
Member of the Clergy or lay person active in community service
Defense Attorney who is a member of local bar association
Licensed Psychiatrist
Mental Health Consumer or Advocate (NAMI Representative)
Domestic Violence Victim, Advocate, or Family Member
The purpose of the Alamance County Justice Advisory Council is to provide oversight for the criminal justice continuum in a comprehensive, community-based and cross-discipline approach as it responds to issues that require a community response including Domestic Violence, Human Trafficking, Mental Illness and Detention and other justice related issues. The Council consists of 19 standing members, by virtue of their position in the county and the above noted 5 appointed members.
Meetings: Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month from 8:00 am to 9:30 am, at the Family Justice Center, 1950 Martin St, Burlington.
The Fall County Government Academy kicked off its first night with “Meet the Commissioners” night. Chairman Eddie Boswell, Commissioner Amy Galey, and Commissioner Bob Byrd discussed their roles as elected officials. They also took questions from the participants.

Date & Time: Thursday, August 31, 2017, 4pm-6pm Location: Alamance County Agriculture Extension Office Auditorium, 209 N. Graham Hopedale Rd., Burlington, 27217. Public Information Session: The Alamance County Planning Department will hold an information session to provide additional information about projects underway in the Planning Department. This includes changes to the Alamance County Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance and proposed map changes. Staff will be available to help interpret any changes related to affected properties and explain any questions about the Ordinance. There will also be an opportunity to discuss work related to a Unified Development Ordinance and Comprehensive Planning efforts in the County. All interested citizens are invited to attend.
Date & Time: Monday, September 18, 2017, 7pm Location: Alamance County Office Building, 124 West Elm Street, Graham, NC 27253. Public Hearing: The Alamance County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing to consider changes to the Alamance County Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance. This hearing is being held to consider adoption of revised flood maps, clarified definitions and application of optional items related to the Ordinance. All interested citizens are invited to attend.

Alamance County is now accepting applications for its upcoming Fall 2017 County Government Academy. The academy is free and will run for 10 consecutive Tuesdays from 6:00-8:00pm (the County Landfill session will start at 3:00pm-5:00pm) at various county departments starting on September 5th and will conclude on November 7th.
The County Government Academy helps participants learn about the county’s responsibilities and the vital role that county government plays in the community.
Participants must be Alamance County residents. Members serving on board-appointed advisory boards/committees are encouraged to sign-up. Class size is limited and academy slots are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Participants are asked to commit to attending every session.

Enjoy entertainment, food, and special guest speakers on the park for Montford Point Marine Day! The keynote speaker for this event will be Secretary Larry D. Hall, from the NC Department of Military and Veteran Affairs. Along with the free food and entertainment, organizations such as the Mobile Vet Center, Winston-Salem VA Regions Office (providing assistance with VA claims), and various other veteran vendors will be available for veteran support. This event is sponsored by Montford Point Marines Association, Chapter 38. Lawn chairs and tents are welcome. Please join us for this day of fun!
