Due to the impending winter storm, the County is currently working to ensure that services remain available to residents.
The County is planning to activate the Emergency Operations Center early Sunday morning staffed with emergency services departments and community partners. The Sheriff’s Department, EMS, and Central Communications (911) are working to up-staff in order to accommodate the anticipated bad weather.
At this time, Social Services and the Health Department are preparing to set up a shelter in case there is significant weather that impacts power. The County will provide information once the decision is made to open the shelter to the public.
For assistance pertaining to the winter storm, please call the Alamance County Emergency Operations Center at 336-290-0362.
Please be advised that the NC Department of Information Technology has received notice from multiple carriers that there are issues with both wireline and wireless services across the southeast portion of the country.
According to L.V. Pokey Harris, Executive Director of the North Carolina 911 Board, “Carriers are addressing the issues at their respective levels and working toward a resolution.”
In case of emergency, please continue to dial 911 first. If your call does not go through, please dial the alternate emergency number (336) 570-6777.
Alamance County will continue to provide updates as new information is received.

Alamance Parks Awarded Recreational Trails Program Grant for First Phase Development of the Cane Creek Mountain Natural Area
GRAHAM, N.C.– Alamance Parks has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Recreational Trails Program in order to begin the first phase of development of the Cane Creek Mountain Natural Area. Initial development will include the first trailhead and trails of the new nature park. The Cane Creek Mountains are located 8 miles south of the City of Graham and comprise the largest State Natural Heritage Area in Alamance County. The mountain range is also home to the highest peak in North Carolina east of Greensboro.
The Cane Creek Mountains are a unique and invaluable natural resource. Development of the park will protect the resources of this area while allowing for recreational and educational use of the property. Ultimately, Alamance Parks hopes to develop between 10-15 miles of trail network through the Cane Creek Mountain Natural Area properties. Upon completion, the Cane Creek Mountain Natural Area will be among the largest county parks in the state.
The Cane Creek Mountain Natural Area is a partnership between The Conservation Fund, Piedmont Land Conservancy, and Alamance Parks. Additional funding support has been received from Clean Water Management Trust Fund and private donors. If you are interested in providing support to help us complete this project, contact Alamance Parks at 336-229-2410.
