Types of hazardous waste that will be accepted:

  • Household cleaners, drain openers, toilet bowl cleaners, oven cleaners, disinfectants
  • Solvents, thinners, shellacs, varnishes, sealers, wood preservatives
  • Automotive products including brake fluid, antifreeze, used motor oil up to 5 gal,
    filters, gasoline
  • Pesticides & insecticides including poisons, aerosols, weed killers
  • Miscellaneous materials such as acids, bases, kerosene, batteries, photographic chemicals,
    pool chemicals, mercury, fluorescent tubes, CFLs
  • Latex & oil based paint and spray paint
  • Propane Cylinders (Grill and camp size ONLY)

ALAMANCE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT BEGINS DISTRIBUTION OF BIVALENT COVID-19 BOOSTER SHOT

What: Alamance County Health Department will begin administration of Moderna and Pfizer bivalent COVID-19 booster shots

When: Mondays and Fridays beginning Friday, September 9, 2022

Where: 319 N Graham Hopedale Rd., Suite E, Burlington, NC.

Who’s Eligible: You can get a bivalent booster if you are 12 years of age or older and it has been at least 2 months since your last dose of your primary series or booster.

2022 Purchase of Development Rights, Alamance County Farmland Preservation Program Application Sign up

The Alamance County Voluntary Agricultural District Board (VAD) will be accepting applications for the Purchase of Development Rights, Alamance County Farmland Preservation Program from Sept.1st – Sept. 30, 2022.  The applications can be picked up or emailed from the Alamance Soil and Water Office starting September 1st, 2022.

 Applications must be returned to the Alamance SWCD Office at 209 N Graham Hopedale Road, Burlington, NC 27217, beginning Sept. 1st  with a deadline of Thursday, Sept. 30, 2022, @ 5:00 PM.

The NC Dept. of Agriculture and Community Services Farmland Preservation Trust Fund anticipates having funding statewide to fund applications in the 2022-2023 cycle.  The Alamance County VAD Board will select the top applicants from the applications received based on the VAD Ranking System.  North Carolina leads the Southeast in lost farmland and Family farms.  This funding is made available to encourage farmland preservation and protection.

Notice is hereby given the Alamance County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing at its regular meeting on Monday, June 20, 2022, at 6:30 PM on revisions to the Alamance County Noise Ordinance.  The public hearing will be held in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room, 2nd Floor of the County Office Building, 124 West Elm Street, Graham, NC 27253.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING: PROPOSED BUDGET OF ALAMANCE COUNTY FOR FISCAL YEAR 2022-2023

The Alamance County Manager has submitted the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2022-2023 to the Alamance County Board of Commissioners.  A public hearing on the proposed budget ordinance will be held on Monday, June 6, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room, 2nd Floor of the County Office Building located at 124 West Elm, Graham, NC 27253. 

All interested citizens are encouraged to attend the public hearing to submit comments.  The proposed budget ordinance is available online on the Alamance County website: www.alamance-nc.com.  Copies are also available in the offices of the Finance Officer and the Clerk to the Board for public inspection from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday.

HAZARDOUS HOUSEHOLD WASTE COLLECTION EVENT THIS SATURDAY

The Alamance County Landfill will be holding a free Hazardous Household Waste collection event on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Burlington Fire Training Facility at 100 Stone Quarry Road in Haw River. The event is for household-generated waste only. No commercial or business waste will be accepted.

Accepted types of hazardous waste include latex & oil-based paint and spray paint; household cleaners, drain openers, toilet bowl cleaners, oven cleaners, disinfectants; solvents, thinners, shellacs, varnishes, sealers, wood preservatives; automotive products including brake fluid, antifreeze, used motor oil (up to 5-gal per resident), filters, gasoline; pesticides & insecticides including poisons, aerosols, weed killers; and miscellaneous materials such as acids, bases, kerosene, batteries, photographic chemicals, pool chemicals, mercury, fluorescent tubes.

The event will also collect propane cylinders, but they must be camp and grill size. No other gas cylinders will be accepted. Other household materials not accepted include explosives and ammunition; medical waste; electronics, TVs, and computers; and radioactives such as smoke detectors.
This free event is sponsored by the Alamance County Landfill. Co-sponsors are Cooperative Extension Service and NC Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services Pesticide Disposal Assistance Program.
