The Alamance County Board of Commissioners is seeking a qualified resident to fill a vacancy on the Alamance Community College Board of Trustees. The appointee will be appointed to an unexpired term ending June 30, 2026.
Description: The Alamance Community College Board of Trustees governs the College within the framework of the Community Colleges Act, Chapter 115D of the North Carolina General Statutes. The ACC Board of Trustees is responsible for and approves the budgets for the financial operation of the College. The ACC Board of Trustees is responsible for providing adequate and competent administration for the efficient operations of the College.
Desired qualifications: Familiarity with Alamance County and a history of advocacy for post-secondary educational training.
Meetings: The ACC Board of Trustees typically meets on the second Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. (except July and December) in the Wallace W. Gee Building. G-222, on the Alamance Community College Campus.
Members: Four of the board members are appointed by the County Board of Commissioners, four by the Board of Education, and four by the Governor.
On October 6, 2017, at the Carrington Scott Campus of Alamance Community College, hundreds gathered for the dedication and ribbon cutting of the new Advanced Applied Technology Center.
The center’s purpose is to prepare students for 21st-century careers in fields that will remain local, are in high demand, and pay good wages. The center’s focus includes technology-driven fields such as AC / heating and refrigeration, automotive systems, computer integrated machining, mechatronics engineering, and welding. The center’s funding came from many sources, including private and public funds.
Local officials attending and participating in the event include Representative Mark Walker, State Senator Rick Gunn, State Representative Stephen Ross, Commissioners Chairman Eddie Boswell, Vice Chairman William Lashley, Commissioner Amy Scott Galey, and County Manager Bryan Hagood.

Alamance County Board of Commissioners attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Alamance Community College’s Advanced Applied Technology Center on the main campus located on Jimmie Kerr Rd, Graham, NC. In November 2012, a majority of votes were cast in favor of the $15,000,000 bond referendum. The County Commissioners voted unanimously to move forward with the financing of those bonds in September 2014. Today, the Alamance County Board of Commissioners participated in the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Advanced Applied Technology Center that will house programs such as: automotive technology; heating & air conditioning; computer-integrated machining; welding technology; and mechatronics. Chairman Eddie Boswell and Commissioner David I. Smith who was chairman in 2014 gave remarks. Vice Chair Bob Byrd, Commissioners Linda Massey and Roger Parker were in attendance.
