Now Accepting Applications

Alamance County will kick-off the 2019 Spring County Government Academy on Tuesday, March 12th, 2019. The County Government Academy gives participants a behind the scenes look at the county’s responsibilities and the vital role that county government plays in the community. Join us in learning how your tax dollars are spent!

The academy will run for 10 consecutive Tuesdays from 6:00-8:30pm (the County Landfill session will start at 3:00pm-5:00pm) at various county departments starting on March 12th and concluding on May 14th.

  • March 12th – Orientation, Clerk to the Board, County Manager, & Group Exercise
  • March 19th – Planning, Tax Administration, & Register of Deeds
  • March 26th – Public Safety: Sheriff’s Office, Jail Tour
  • April 2nd – Developmental & Technical Services: Inspections and Recreation & Parks
  • April 9th – Human Services: Environmental Health, Public Health, and Social Services
  • April 16th – Agricultural & Horticulture Services: Cooperative Extension, Food Sciences Cooking Demonstration & Soil & Water Conservation
  • April 23rd – Emergency Services (Part 1): Emergency Management & Central Communications
  • April 30th – Emergency Services (Part 2): Fire Marshal & Emergency Medical Services
  • May 7th – Solid Waste Management (3:00-5:00pm)*
  • May 14th – Geographic Information System, Human Resources, & Info Technology
  • May 20th – Meet & Greet w/ County Commissioners followed by Graduation/Recognition

Class size is limited and academy slots are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Participants are asked to commit to attending every session.

Susana Goldman Named as Interim Director for Alamance Libraries

Alamance County announces Susana Goldman as Interim Director for Alamance County Libraries.

Susana Goldman has been with Alamance Libraries since February of 2014 when she was hired to be May Memorial Branch Manager. In 2016, Goldman was promoted to Associate Director of Operations where she became responsible for all library branches and staff. She holds a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Alabama and a Bachelor of Arts in English and Journalism from the University of Iowa.

“I am honored to step into the role as Interim Director for the Alamance County Library system,” said Goldman. “We are working hard to move forward with our Bookmobile project and striving to continue to meet the needs of the community during this time of transition.”  The County is planning to start the search for the next Library Director in the coming months.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

Please take notice that the Alamance County Board of County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Monday, February 4th at 9:00 AM to consider the following:

  1. Moratorium on new Heavy Industrial Development Ordinance Applications

Adrian Daye Named as New Director of Social Services

The Alamance County Social Services Board welcomes Adrian Daye as the County’s new Director of Social Services, effective February 1, 2019. Daye has served as the Deputy Director since 2016.

“The Board is thrilled with the selection of Adrian Daye as the new DSS Director for Alamance County. We are impressed with her experience, passion, and professionalism and know that she will serve the citizens of Alamance County well. While it’s hard to say goodbye to Susan Osborne who has led the agency with amazing expertise and dedication, we are assured of a smooth transition and a bright future,” says Heidi Norwick, DSS Board Member and President of United Way.

Adrian Daye has been with the Alamance County Department of Social Services for more than 25 years and has held a variety of roles including Children Services Program Manager, Assistant Director for Services, and most recently as the Deputy Director. In this position, she was responsible for all administrative duties including Child Welfare, Adult Services, Child Support, Economic Services, and the Family Justice Center.

Adrian is a native of Alamance County and holds a Master of Social Work and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Additionally, she recently finished her certification in Municipal County Administration from the School of Government and is involved in social work issues at the national, state, and local level.

“Alamance County Department of Social Services has made great progress in providing services and support to enhance the lives of our most vulnerable populations,” said Daye. “I look forward to continuing these efforts through partnership with the agency staff, county
leadership, and our community.”

Family to Family Education Program

FAMILY-TO-FAMILY EDUCATION PROGRAM FREE FOR FAMILY MEMBERS, PARTNERS AND FRIENDS OF INDIVIDUALS WITH

  • Co-occurring Brain Disorders and Addictive Disorders

Family to Family is a series of 12 weekly classes structured to help caregivers understand and support individuals with serious mental illness while maintaining their own well being. The course is taught by a team of trained NAMI family volunteers who know what it is like to have a loved one struggling with one of these brain disorders. There is no cost to participate in the Family to Family Education Program. We think you will be pleased by how much assistance the program offers. We invite you to call for more information.

Register of Deeds Postage Memorandum

Beginning January 1, 2019, the Alamance County Register of Deeds Office will require that postage paid return envelopes be included with all documents submitted for recording in Alamance County.

Please make certain that the amount of postage on the envelope(s) is adequate for the weight of the document(s) being returned.  Walk-in customers will have the option of providing a SASE, being charged an additional $2 fee for an envelope and postage, or coming back in to pick up their document(s) when they are ready.

Local businesses still have the option of having a mailbox in this office so they can walk-in and obtain their original documents that have been recorded. If you are local and would like a mailbox, please let staff know the next time you come in the office.

12-11-18: Alamance County Government Opening at 11:00 am Tuesday

Alamance County Government Offices, Landfill and Convenience Center, and District and Superior Courts will operate on a three hour delay and will be opening at 11:00am on Tuesday (12-11-18) due to winter weather.

Press Release: Public Hearing on Economic Development Incentives

The Alamance County Board of Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room, 2nd floor of the County Office Building, 124 W. Elm St., Graham NC.

The purpose of the meeting will be to receive comments on a proposal to extend economic development incentives to Becton Dickinson and Company, a company with plans to create new taxable investment in Alamance County of up to $176,000,000 in building expansion and equipment and to create approximately 116 full-time jobs at an average annual salary of $67,759 with no temporary workers. The proposed incentive offer is $2,640,000 to be paid over five (5) years.
